Gnarliest Hike on The East Coast? | The Precipice | Acadia National Park

The Precipice Trail in Acadia National Park is often called one of the most intense hikes on the East Coast—and now I see why. People compare it to Angel’s Landing in Zion, which I’ve only ever had the pleasure of experiencing on YouTube, but this one definitely lived up to the hype. Originally, I was planning to take on the Beehive Trail after getting my oil changed, but while driving around looking for the trailhead I stumbled across the Precipice and couldn’t pass up the chance. I started out around 9:30–10:00 AM and even with more hikers than I would’ve liked, the trail was nothing short of incredible. The Precipice Loop climbs up the side of Champlain Mountain, a cliffside peak just over 1,000 feet overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. From ladders and iron rungs to exposed cliff edges and hand-over-hand scrambles, it’s everything you’d want in a thrilling hike. And the views? Absolutely breathtaking. At the summit the signs direct you back down to the Park Loop Road, making for a complete adventure. After finishing, I headed back to the dorms for a shower, some food, and a post-hike recap. This is definitely one trail I’ll remember.
