2026-01-21-8:30 am Celebration of the Holy Mass for Wednesday of the 2nd Week in Ordinary Time.

Good morning and welcome to the celebration of the Holy Mass for Wednesday of the 2nd Week in Ordinary Time. Today we celebrate the Memorial of St. Agnes, virgin and martyr. Our readings today invite us to reflect upon how well the Lord is the ruler of our lives. In our first reading, we have the familiar story of David and Goliath. David is dismissed because of his small stature and no one sees him as capable of defeating Goliath. David's confidence comes from his trust in the Lord. He declares that he comes in the name of the Lord and the Lord will give him victory. In our Gospel, we continue to see how Jesus comes to bring life to all those who seek it. The Pharisees still do not understand who Jesus is. They concentrate on the Letter of the Law rather than the Spirit of the Law. They are blinded to the reality of what is happening before their eyes and they plot to kill Jesus. Does our faith and our actions mirror the love of God in our lives? Is there a hurdle (a Goliath) in your life that needs to be given over to the Lord? Do we judge people by their outward appearance and forget that they are our brothers and sisters in the Lord? Can we look at each person we meet through the eyes of Jesus and show them respect and caring? Remember that Jesus came to bring us life and to give it to us abundantly. Let us declare with the psalmist that the Lord is the rock of our lives and witness to the joy of this relationship in our daily lives. The Responsorial Psalm is Psalm 144: "Blessed be the Lord, my rock."
