An ancient form of theatrics rooted in physical comedy, clowning transcends language and cultural barriers by finding the absurd in the everyday. Carolyn tells us a little about what the art and practice of clowning mean to her, and what it means to find your clown. BOTH AND…A PLAY ABOUT LAUGHING WHILE BLACK A VIRTUAL WORK-IN-PROGRESS PRESENTATION On the eve of her mother’s death, a woman takes a journey to the underworld, where she discovers the healing power of joy. Both And… A Play About Laughing While Black is a brand new one-woman play, written and performed by Carolyn Ratteray. Through clowning and a tour-de-force performance, Ratteray weaves stories in which she meets her ancestors, remembers how to laugh, and learns some important things about what’s inside her mother’s purse. This piece is a work-in-progress. Boston Court is delighted to share this virtual workshop with our audience. We hope you’ll join us on the exciting journey of developing art! #MakingScriptsHappen Both And… will be available to view on demand for free from May 29th-June 9th on Boston Court’s UScreen storefront. If you have any questions about how to watch, please contact the Help Desk at [email protected]. Join us for a virtual Q&A with Carolyn on Thursday, June 3 at 7PM.
