LCC 2018 Homecoming Special Announcement

Dear LCC Families-- LCC will be welcoming over 1250 students to the OUT OF THIS WORLD Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 6th at La Costa Canyon High School on the lower softball field. Here are some important guidelines to help for a successful evening: Homecoming will be held at La Costa Canyon High School. The dance runs from 7:30 - 10:00 PM, check in will start around 7:15PM. Students must be checked in by 8:30 PM, the earliest a student can leave is 9:30 PM. Students are NOT allowed to leave once they enter the dance. Unfortunately, tickets are NOT for sale at the door. Students must bring their student ID or display student information through Aeries. Students must wear shoes and appropriate attire at all times. Administrators will be randomly screening students, which may include the use of a breathalyzer. Students are required to check bags and personal items upon entry. All students are subject to the conditions of the LCC Dance Contract, which each student (in attendance) needs to submit electronically before the start of the dance. In preparation for the Homecoming Dance, we wanted to take an opportunity to help our students become the very best human they can be. Last week our fantastic MavNation team created and aired a segment to help clear up some confusion on consent for our students. This week Principal Medina and the school resource officer will continue to help guide our Maverick family in how to make healthy choices via a quick video that will be shown in classes on Friday. Several teachers, coaches, and the ASB plan to reiterate this message of respect and kindness as well. This strategic effort is part of a “Good Human” project that has been in the works for the past year. Over last summer about 15 teachers/coaches volunteered to be certified by the A Call to Men program in their LIVE RESPECT curriculum to help guide our Maverick family in this project. Preparing the kids for Homecoming is our first major push to set a tone of respect, responsibility, clear boundaries, and kindness on campus. This time around we have chosen to focus on the sensitive matter of sexual assault/harassment/inappropriate touching. We encourage parents to view the last two minutes of Mavnation and to discuss this topic with their kiddos as well so that we can all work together to help these kids navigate a perpetually confusing world in a healthy way.
