We celebrate Grandparents Day — a day filled with love, laughter, and gratitude — beautifully aligned with the Feast of St. Joachim and St. Anne, the beloved grandparents of Jesus Christ. Grandparents Day was championed by Marian McQuade of the U.S. in 1978 to honour the wisdom and love of the elderly. But long before that, the Church already celebrated St. Joachim and St. Anne — role models of faith and quiet strength, who helped shape the heart of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Our grandparents are storytellers, prayer warriors, secret-keepers, and givers of timeless advice and extra sweets!. They remind us of who we are and where we come from. At St. Paul’s, we believe education is also about shaping the heart — and no one does that better than our elders. So today, call your grand parents and seniors, hug them, thank them. And if they’re in heaven, send up a prayer.
