The Mansion is the official summer residence of the President of the Philippines. It is located on the eastern part of the city along C.P. Romulo Drive (formerly a part of Leonard Wood Road) and right across from Wright Park. Older than the city itself, the Mansion is easily one of the most visited and photographed landmarks of Baguio. Formerly called the Mansion House, this stately building was built in 1908 as summer homes for U.S. Governor-generals who were the American administrators for the Philippines and was destroyed in 1945 during the battle for the liberation of the Philippines. The Philippine government later rebuilt and improved the structure in 1947 and since then it has been used by various Philippine presidents whenever they come up to Baguio City for their official visits and engagements. Wright Park is one of the recreational areas developed by the Americans. It is named after Governor Luke Edward Wright who served as the city’s governor-general from 1906 to 1909. Because of the ideal landscape, horse-riding was introduced as one of the prime activities here. Although there are other venues for horses in Baguio, this remains the most popular. Wright Park is the perfect place for children and adults who love to ride a horse. In fact, Wright Park is often mistakenly called as “Ride Park”. There are some horses available that may be rented and taken out along South Drive, Mines View Park. After your horseback riding activity, you can walk around and explore the natural and cultural beauty of Wright Park. When you walk beside the pool, you will see tall pine trees and decorative street lights line both sides of the access road. Wright Park and The Mansion are just a few meters from each other. If you reach the Pool of Pines, you’ll notice a distinct landmark at the end which is The Mansion.
