Ylva Johansson eudebates #MigrationEU proposals with EU Interior Ministers

I am totally satisfied with my proposal. It's a balanced proposal, it's a compromise, and I do think that this is good enough to be able to reach an agreement both with the Council and the Parliament. https://www.eudebates.tv/debates/spec... #SOTEU #SOTEU20 #eudebates #Migration #Migrants #Asylum #refugees #Asylum #integration #Relocation Which countries, which colleagues did the most progress? No you can't really say that. My proposal is really focusing on the real challenges that we have: the irregular arrivals, the failure on returns, the lack of solidarity, and the fact that we have to strengthen the human rights in migration. And these are the topics I am addressing in my proposal. Which aspects of the migration pact should be prioritized? Well you need to have a balanced proposal on some political agreements and I know that I am totally aligning with Minister Seehofer on this. So you have to include the solidarity and the responsibility because they are very much linked to each other. Critics by Orbán on migration pact? Of course I am not naive, it's difficult to have a situation where all the member states share the same views on migration. But I do think we can reach the situation where they can all agree on the proposal that I've put on the table. For sure there will be negotiations and this also with the Parliament but yes I am optimistic! I should also say that the possibilities are in the details in my proposal so I am looking forward with the negotiations. Priorities? Well it is the German Presidency that has the lead but we are working very close together. For me it's important to have a balanced approach so you cannot just pick out a few things. Solidarity and responsibility need to be both together. Will it be a test for this Migration Pact? I don't think that this first Council is the real test but of course I am really much looking forward to listen to the Ministers and to have a dialogue with them. Criticism of NGOs on this Pact: "EU is becoming a forteresse"? That is not true! It is very clear that this Pact is defending the fundamental rights, that it protects the right to apply for asylum, that we do new legislation to avoid push-backs and to make sure alleged push-backs are being investigated. And also that we have this clear solidarity also for the search and rescue cases that have been disembarked on European soil so I do not agree with them on that point. Do you think we can reach a political agreement by the end of the German Presidency? I think we will also need the Portuguese Presidency to finalise this. https://www.eudebates.tv/ #eudebates
