Chris Weinke Mixtape - Florida State

Chris Weinke is obviously known for being one of the best quarterbacks Florida State, and maybe all of college football, has ever seen. But did you know that Weinke initially passed on football at FSU after being selected in the 2nd round of the 1990 MLB Draft? Legendary FSU coach Bobby Bowden promised Weinke he had a football scholarship waiting for him in Tallahassee if he ever decided to give up baseball, and after 6 seasons in the minor leagues, Weinke did just that and traded in his baseball glove for a football helmet. The decision proved to be a wise one, as Weinke turned into one of the best signal callers in program history. After leading the Noles to a 9-1 record, a #2 ranking, and the national championship game in 1998 as a sophomore, Weinke topped that with the Seminoles' first ever undefeated national championship season in 1999 - defeating Michael Vick and Virginia Tech in the championship game. He accomplished the seemingly impossible by getting even better his senior season, leading the country in passing, taking FSU to their third-straight national championship game and being crowned the Heisman Trophy winner. Weinke was an astounding 32-3 in his career at FSU. He was taken in the 4th round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panther and played seven NFL seasons in his professional career. Since retiring, Weinke has moved into coaching roles and has spent time with the LA Rams, Alabama and Tennessee. His No. 16 jersey is still retired at Florida State.
