Migrate from ChatGPT to Claude - How To Transfer & Import Memory, Chat History and Context

Well, Anthropic has just introduced a new import tool which makes the migration process super easy - and it even works in the free version! In this tutorial, I'll show you how to use it. -- If you enjoyed this video, please SUBSCRIBE to HandyAndy Tech Tips. -- Well, Anthropic’s Claude has experienced a recent surge in popularity, and a lot of people are making the switch. But what if you’ve been using ChatGPT for ages and you have a lot of chat history and context that you don’t want to lose? Now you’re in luck, because Claude has a new feature that simplifies the process of moving your ‘memories’ across from another chatbot. And it even works on the free version! Here’s how to get started. First, go to the Claude website at claude.ai and login to your account. Next, click on your profile and go to Settings. Next, go to the Capabilities section and, where it says “Import memory from other AI providers”, click “Start import”. How this works is that Claude will give you a prompt that you can paste into ChatGPT. The prompt requests all the information that the model has about you - from particular instructions that you’ve given it in the past, through to your identity, career, projects, preferences etc. So you’ll want to copy this and then go across to ChatGPT. Now paste the prompt in a new chat and let it answer. You can see it says “Here’s the export of all the stored memories I have for you”, and it has a lot of information listed. Now, copy this response, and go back to Claude. Paste it in the provided text box, and then click “Add to memory”. It will take a little while, but then everything should be transferred across! Now all that’s left to do is test it. I was recently asking ChatGPT about making a music visualiser display in React, so I’ll go to Claude and say “What web dev project have I recently been working on?” And it correctly answers, “Your recent project is a React Music Visualiser”.
