Knitting a Vintage Fair Isle Style Jumper - Steeking and Setting in a Puff Sleeve

Hi friends! This week I finally bit the bullet and finished off my Majorie Jumper, a pattern by Kristin Drysdale (Scandiworks) a   / scandiwork   To expand more about what I talk about at the end in terms of waist and bust shaping. Let’s say I choose a size based on a "bust circumference” recommended by the designer. It’s usually something like choose a bust circumference that is 0” difference from your measurements. So I would do 48". Most knitwear designers will distribute those 48" inches evenly on the front and back. That means it's 24" on the front and 24" on the back. This doesn't account for the fact that most people are actually bigger on the front than they are on the back, but rarely in an even fashion. This is because back are relatively flat whereas front may have things like pectoral muscles, breasts, or stomachs and various combinations of those that require more room in certain parts of the front. For someone who is smaller and more proportional because knitwear is stretchy differences in 2" can be compensated for. For some with a large difference, you will have tightness. Since my true front measure is actually 27" and my back measure is 21". Making a 48” bust size, I actually have 3 inches extra in the back and is 3 inches too tight in the front. While the stretch fabric will pull forward, it is now under strain and taut across the chest. I talk more about proportional waist shaping in my previous video: Knitting a Vintage Inspired Sweater in 5 days - Lawrenson Sweater Project Vlog and Tutorial    • Knitting a Vintage Inspired Sweater in 5 d...   In this video I talk about: knitting stranded colourwork with two hands - see this blog post by Dianna Walla for more information: https://paper-tiger.net/2013/11/09/st... a trick for weaving in yarn as you knit Knitting a sleeve cap in the round with a steek (adding steek stitches, shaping the sleeve, and cutting open the steek) Setting in a Puff Sleeve by gathering a sleeve cap Find me elsewhere: Support the channel by buying me a coffee: http://ko-fi.com/booksandcables Instagram:   / booksandcables
