Pacific climate advocacy and inclusive energy

Climate security will remain a major focus in the Pacific security landscape in 2026. Hugo Temby and Kemson Tavdey discuss the processes around the historic International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion on states' obligations to protect the climate system, the outcomes from COP30 in Belém, Brazil, and the renewable energy transition in the Pacific. Kemson Tavdey was a participant in the Pacific Visitorship Program at the Pacific Security College. He is the Climate Diplomacy Coordinator at the Vanuatu Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade and has previously served as Vanuatu's ICJ Global Climate Diplomacy Coordinator. The views are his own. Hugo Temby is a Research Fellow at the Pacific Security College. He is an interdisciplinary social scientist with research interests in energy social science, development anthropology, and Pacific studies. Views expressed are not necessarily those of the Pacific Security College. Read our publishing policy: https://pacificsecurity.net/publishin...
