3 Years with SRAM AXS Derailleurs. Back in 2020, about a year after SRAM released their AXS wireless derailleur system on the market, I decided to take the plunge and buy an X01 derailleur and controller. At the time, it was about $800 retail. I didn't pay that but still expensive. My main purpose in buying it was to see what the fuss was all about and also to show customers that came in the shop, what it was and see if it was something they would want to upgrade to. At the time GX wasn't available, so when that came out, I encouraged people to buy that one as the only difference was a slightly heaving steel cage instead of alloy or carbon on the higher end models (X01 and XX1) #bikingroots, #sramaxs, #expensivederailleurs When SRAM introduced the world to 12 speed gearing back in 2016, it provided tons of range and did away with the front derailleur, but also created somewhat of an issue. 12 speed drivetrains work well IF they are setup properly and do not experience much cable stretch or movement. Many found that once it was setup and not messed with, it worked well. However, often we cannot keep conditions perfect as we fly down mountains, jumps, crash, crazy weather, etc. Many found that they were constantly having to adjust and get their shifting just right. This is due to the fact that the gaps between the gears are very small/narrow so everything needs to be just about perfect. Wireless technology solves all of that and provides exact shifts up or down all the time. Over that last 3 years, I've hardly done anything to my shifting which is awesome. It's kind of what you expect when you're paying so much for new technology, but at the same time, it doesn't always add up to the claims. In this case, my opinion is it does live up to the hype and hopefully over time, the technology will become more affordable and trickle down into beginner derailleur pricing. We shall see.
