The settlement, which has only been in existence for a year, consisted mainly of tents and had about 10 inhabitants. But about 200 people from other nearby Jewish settlements converged on a hilltop, blocking the road leading to Mitzpeh Yitzhar with cars and burning tyres to prevent soldiers from dismantling the outpost. VOICE-OVER: 0003 Settlers set fire to underbrush around the outpost in a bid to limit the visibility of Israeli soldiers trying to make their way to the hilltop to demolish the homes there. 0014 But when the two came together the trouble began. 0017 The outpost of Mitzpeh Yitzhar consists mainly of tents and has only about 10 inhabitants. 0023 But 200 people from other nearby Jewish settlements converged on the hilltop to try to prevent the soldiers from dismantling the homes. 0031 Israel must take down unauthorised settlements in the West Bank as part of the road map peace plan, which includes the creation of a Palestinian state. 0040 Settlers have sued the Israeli government to prevent the removal of inhabited outposts, but the courts have rejected many of their arguments. 0049 The Peace Now group, which opposes settlements, says more than 100 have been set up since 1996. 0055 Mitzpeh Yitzhar is the first inhabited outpost to be dismantled after 10 uninhabited ones were removed last week.
