Thermochemical and Catalytic Lignin conversion routes to fuels and chemicals

Roman Tschentscher, SINTEF, Norway Title: Thermochemical and Catalytic Lignin conversion routes to fuels and chemicals Industrially lignin is still regarded as waste product despite its great potential for production of platform and higher value chemicals. The presentation will discuss various examples of linin valorisation routes, which are currently investigated within the Norwegian Research Center for Renewable Energy. The target is, thereby to increase the selectivity of selected monomers as well as reduce the process costs. Initially the integration of enzymatic wood hydrolysis and catalytic fast pyrolysis of the lignin rich residue will be discussed. Finally, preliminary results for the heterogeneously catalysed depolymerization of organosolv lignin will be presented.
