Enhancing responses to immunotherapy in melanoma via the gut microbiota

Rebecca Simpson, PhD, The University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia, comments on strategies to improve responses in patients with melanoma receiving immunotherapy by modulating the gut microbiota. Various methods via diet, probiotics and fecal transplants are currently being assessed in several Phase I clinical trials. Dr Simpson additionally highlights the need for further research as the microbes responsible for moderating responses to immunotherapy are not known. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2022 Congress in Paris, France.
