(10 Feb 2014) Two day talks between the Pakistani Taliban and their intermediaries in Waziristan concluded on Monday. The discussions were part of ongoing peace negotiations with the government. Professor Mohammad Ibrahim, a senior member of the Taliban dialogue committee, and leader of the northwest Afghanistan branch of the hardline Jamaat-e-Islami party, was at the talks and gave a news conference on his return from Waziristan. He said he was feeling positive that progress was being made. "We hope that we will take this process onward from that meeting and we hope that we will give a good news and good tidings to the people of Pakistan" said Ibrahim, adding he hoped that "peace will prevail in country" and that the ten year long war will come to an end. Ibrahim added that "both the committees have requested both the sides to take care and to avoid any violent activities...which can spoil these negotiation processes." A Taliban committee is likely to meet with a government committee on Tuesday in Islamabad.
