Developer Hudson Soft brought the popular N64 game series to Nintendo's new console and barely changed the recipe for success. Once again, the winner is the one with the most stars at the end of a party. A mini-game is played after each round, and items are obtained from the item shops as usual. Essentially, Mario Party 4 plays like its predecessors. What's new, however, is the Mini-Max principle. With a Mini Mushroom, players become tiny and can access secret paths on the boards or use shortcuts. With the Maxi Mushroom, you can roll twice and, if you catch an opponent on your way, you also take 10 coins. However, you can't participate in any events. Even as a giant, you can't acquire the star! Also new: the lottery. Fun, but really just luck. Still a great innovation, one that's even exclusive to Mario Party 4. Another small innovation would be the extra mini-games. These are all about high scores. I'm playing both Story Mode in single-player and Party Mode in multiplayer with Juli. We start in Story Mode and try to earn as many gifts as possible. After all, a party has to be properly celebrated. And many people agreed!
