Cleaning The Quail Brooder Boxes

Hello everyone!! I've been cleaning the quail brooder boxes once a day and I've been keeping them on paper towels so far. I like to do this with brand new chicks for a couple of reasons: #1 it helps them have something to grip while their legs are strengthening, #2 it helps me to see how much they are going poo- sounds odd but it's great to see that they are going to the bathroom (if there isn't much poo then check to make sure your temperatures are good in your boxes, temperature can really effect chicks digestive systems) #3 they can learn the difference in what their food looks like vs. substrate. After 48 hours I switch them to a different substrate (usually just what I have on hand) today I'm using chopped straw bedding from tractor supply and they really seem to love it!!
