North Korea cannot 'tip' missile with nuclear warhead: U.S. State Dept.

美국무부 "北, 탄도미사일에 핵탄두 탑재능력 아직 못 갖춰" The United States has downplayed North Korea's claim that it has the capability to launch a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile. The State Department says that, while Pyongyang is making nuclear and missile advancements, the U.S. has the power to protect its allies in the region. Kim Mok-yeon reports. The U.S. State Department says it does not believe North Korea can put a nuclear warhead atop one of its ballistic missiles. Edit No2199 "...We do not believe that he at that at this point in time has the capability to tip one of these with a nuclear warhead. That's as far as I can, I'm going to go in terms of assessing." The remarks follow North Korea's announcement on Sunday in which it said it was close to test-firing an ICBM, stressing that Pyongyang is now a "military power of the East that cannot be touched by even the strongest enemy." The announcement sparked concerns in the U.S., prompting President-elect Donald Trump to tweet that North Korea's development of a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. "won't happen." The Pentagon reacted by saying Washington is confident in its ability to repel any ballistic missile launch from North Korea. Edit No2187 "We have a ballistic missile defense, a missile defense umbrella that we're confident in for the region and to protect the United States homeland. And we will continue to be confident in it, given where we are today and the technology and the skill with which our forces are using that technology." The spokesman also said the U.S. is working hard to deploy the THAAD missile defense system to South Korea as soon as possible. Kim Mok-yeon, Arirang News.
