1955 Sylvania Halolight 'The Kirkwood' - Model 526 with 21' inch screen. According to the original brochure, the cabinet was built and designed by a furniture manufacturer in North Carolina. The cabinet features mahogany veneer wood. The final assembly was in Buffalo, NY. This was biggest screen you could buy at the time with the exception of a 23 inch screen. This set was never restored. With the exception of the picture tube replacement in 1966, long well after this set was already obsolete. I hooked it up to a DVD player through a RF converter. Then hooked the coaxial cable to a 75-300 ohm transformer, connected to the VHF input. Unfortunately cable does not perform well with sets of this vintage because of lack of filters. This set is 66 years old. The tube amplifier sound is a better quality sound than found on transistors and digital tvs. Tube amplifiers are still used by professional musicians as tubes put out a rich, warm and smoother sound. The original invoice for this set in 1955 was $375. About $3,700 in 2021. The set costed about 1/3 of a brand new 1955 base Ford Mainline.
