We visited the National Museum of Transportation, in Kirkwood, Missouri on the first leg of our journey to Ogden and Promontory, Utah for the Sesquicentennial (150th) Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad and associated Spike 150 festivities. The day is Sunday, May 5th, 2019, and it turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous one in the St. Louis area! In this video, we observe sister Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 Big Boy #4006 on static display. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_P...) We will also pay a visit to one of the museum's most prized pieces of motive power out of all the equipment on display there... An absolute legend in the railroading/railfan community... the pride and joy of Missouri and the Ozarks: Saint Louis-San Francisco Railway (Frisco) 4-8-2 Mountain type #1522. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Lou...) At 6:44 in this video, I included some BONUS FOOTAGE of the last leg of our journey for the day... (From St. Louis, Missouri to Lincoln, Nebraska.) At 11:42 in this video, driving north on beautiful U.S. Route 75 near Auburn, Nebraska, we encountered a formerly tornadic supercell thunderstorm which continued to move towards us from the Northwest as we drove along this two-lane highway on our way to the ultimate destination of Lincoln, Nebraska... about 45 minutes away from our location at the time. A confirmed tornado touched down in Lincoln from this same storm cell at around 6:30 p.m. Thankfully, no more tornadic activity came with it to the Southeast of Lincoln. We, numerous other motorists, the town of Auburn, and several other communities within Nemaha County dodged a major bullet!!! God is forever faithful!
