Hey everyone, Jonathan Wild here! Today, we're diving into how to record purchases of merchandise, both with and without discounts. This is crucial for any retail business or anyone involved in buying and selling products. We will cover a few different scenarios in this video. To begin we will examine credit purchases made by a merchandiser without any discount offered, as well as the corresponding journal entries made by that merchandiser. We will continue by then analyzing a more complex situation, where a merchandiser makes the same credit purchase, but this time with a discount offered. In our discussion, we will cover what credit terms are and how to interpret them, what the discount period is, and how to properly compute a potential discount. We also explain how to correctly record this type of transaction both during and after the discount period.
