FF9PGWSF 86 - Kraken (new)

Steals and Spoils: -273 gil, Wizard Rod, Genji Helmet, 17,376 gil, Phoenix Pinion Thanks to that save point, I can get to the next save point with just one random battle. A tad difficult to do, but there are much worse places in the game. Zidane gets the Ribbon for protection against water. I set everyone else up the way they were against Maliris, which gives Steiner and Freya protection against water, and give Ethers out. I need to steal the Genji Helmet here. Kraken will counter every move made against it like 95% of the time, and that counter could be from it or one of its tentacles. Also, when Steiner uses Charge!, some of the attacks could be wasted on the tentacles. And for some reason, the tentacles don't die when the hit from a Charge! would take them out. So it's just easier to take the tentacles before doing anything else, especially since Zidane and Freya can easily take them out. I take out the right one first so that Quina can start using Limit Gloves and not get countered by Water Gun (well, that was the idea at least). After the tentacles are gone, I can start using Charge!. Even if it starts using Waterga and it's only Steiner and Freya in critical HP, it will still do more damage. However, I got really lucky with this battle as it never once used Waterga, which means that Zidane stayed in critical HP, Quina only ended up getting KOed once, more damage from Charge! and more Limit Gloves. The evade and Distract works rather well in this battle. I would normally have to take another random battle here to let Quina auto-life and put Zidane in critical HP again. But since none of that happened, I didn't need to. So I went from before Tiamat to now with just one random battle instead of three. Quina masters High Tide.
