The Walhalla /West Union is currently experiencing a widespread power outage. The outage is currently affecting approximately 2000 residents. Emergency Services is in direct contact with Duke Energy officials who are working diligently to correct the issue. The power is expected to be restored by mid-afternoon. Oconee County Emergency Services is currently contacting all persons with special needs in the affected area to offer assistance and sheltering. Residents are encouraged to check on family, neighbors, and others in the area who are home bound. A shelter has been established at the Walhalla Depot, 211 South College Street, Walhalla. Any person needing relief from the heat is encourage to come to the shelter.
