'Spectacular assault': Trump says Maduro captured as US carries out strike on Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was captured and removed from the country, President Donald Trump announced after confirming that U.S. forces conducted what he called “a large-scale strike against Venezuela" early Saturday morning. "At my direction, the United States Armed Forces conducted an extraordinary military operation in the capital of Venezuela," Trump said during a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, where he has spent the past two weeks for the holidays. "This was one of the most stunning, effective, and powerful displays of American military might and competence in American history," he added, also noting that the U.S. will "run" Venezuela until a safe, proper, and judicious transition can be made. Trump said the U.S. is prepared to make a second and "much bigger" wave of attacks if needed.
