Refugee crisis: Funerals for family trying to escape Syria

The image of a three-year-old Syrian refugee's body on a Turkish beach has shaken and outraged people worldwide. The images of the child lying on the beach and a Turkish police officer lifting the boy's limp body were displayed atop newspapers' front-pages. The tragedy has sparked discussions on the human cost of the crisis. According to the International Organization for Migration, some 350-thousand migrants have made the risky journey to reach Europe's shores since January this year. The United Nations Children's Fund says at least a quarter of those seeking refuge in Europe are children. In the first six months of this year, more than 106,000 children claimed asylum in Europe. On Friday, the toddler, along with his drowned 5-year-old brother and mother, were laid to rest in the Syrian town of Kobani, near the border with Turkey.
