3 Days on the North Coast 500: Whistle-Stop Adventures Around Scotland’s Iconic Route

Join me on a whirlwind 3-day journey around Scotland’s legendary North Coast 500, packed with breathtaking scenery, iconic stops, and hidden gems! With limited time, I had to make some tough choices but managed to cram in a little bit of everything. Starting in Falkirk, I kicked off the adventure with a stunning drive through Glen Coe before reaching the official NC500 route. Day 1 took me to the charming Applecross, where I stayed overnight after tackling the infamous Bealach na Bà. The next morning, I visited the awe-inspiring Corrieshalloch Gorge and drove on to Durness. There, I explored the eerie beauty of Smoo Cave under the cover of darkness and enjoyed a night by the beach at the cozy Sango Sands Oasis. On Day 2, I followed the dramatic northern coastline, making a quick pit stop at Melvich Beach to meet my son and his girlfriend, before continuing to the "northernmost" point of mainland Britain, John O’Groats. The final leg featured the fascinating Whaligoe Steps, where I marveled at the history and views of this tucked-away coastal spot. Then came the long but scenic journey back south, winding down the A9 through the Highlands to return to Falkirk.
