Uttarakhand on Red Alert: Heavy Rains Halt Char Dham Yatra, Block National Highways

Incessant rainfall has led the IMD to issue a red alert in Uttarakhand. In response, schools have been ordered closed in isolated areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Bageshwar. The government has also suspended the Char Dham Yatra until 5th September. The heavy rains, following devastation in August, have caused significant destruction, with reports of over 1300 houses partially damaged and 300 houses blocked by landslides and flash floods. Additionally, six national highways are reported to be blocked. Disaster management authorities, including SDRF and NDRF, are on standby to respond to any emergencies.
