Is it even possible to escape it? You decide! This video was inspired by movies such as “Cube” in the sense that it can be made with a small budget, using only one room that’s lit differently. Making this clip was very problematic, especially now during the Winter - THIS Winter, lol. The house that we are usually filming in doesn’t have heating besides a small gas heater in the kitchen that ups the temperature 2-3 degrees max. The temperatures during January were around -10 or less so filming would actually be dangerous to us and our ancient equipment. That’s why I recorded the “Full Moon” album in January, and waited for a “warmer” date during February. Then came the one day, when the temperature was around 0 degrees. It was our only shot, because next week was -12 everyday, haha. During the basement shots it was so cold that after an hour of shooting I felt every bone in my body, and that was just the beginning. We powered through the rest because it was our only chance of making this music video and when we got home we took 2 days off because we were just so tired of the freezing conditions. Yeah, I hate filming during winter. This was probably my last attempt. Still, that was just the icing on the cake, because when I started editing the video, I found out that Windows 11 messed up the drivers of my capture card for the VHS-C camera, and all the shots have a worse quality then before. Can you imagine: new drivers = worse quality? WTF? So, I entered panic mode and wasted a whole Sunday to reinstall the drivers with no avail. Windows Defender was doing everything in it's power to get rid of the older drivers. Then Mrokat told me to turn off the "core isolation" and it worked! I never screamed in joy as loud as that day! As for the song, it's a fun one! It was written very quickly (3 hours?). I played the riff by accident and thought about the concept of going higher after a few repeats. I wanted to mask the key shift as much as possible, so that you can only hear it when you rewind the song backwards, lol. With this I envisioned Mr. Moon going up a ladder to different rooms with different situations happening. I like when music describes directly what’s happening on screen. Also this was done deliberately because it will be easier to film it like that (as I painstakingly described above). When writing the solo I wanted to play something very simple with a haunting melody. No shred, just simple notes over chords with a key change in the middle. I think it’s one of my favorite solos from this album, mainly because it’s so anti-flex… and we guitar players like to flex, oh yeah! So, here’s Higher! Have fun with it!
