Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (Xbox Series X) (Xclusive Playthrough - Part 18) Conquering Darkness

Check out part 18 of my Xclusive Playthrough series featuring the game Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice! This game released on the Xbox One and Xbox Series families of consoles on April 10th, 2018. It was developed & published by Ninja Theory Ltd. In this video, Senua escapes from the depths of Fenrir's dungeon & climbs back up to Hela's lair. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is an action-adventure game set in a dark fantasy world that's inspired by Norse mythology and Celtic culture. The player is placed in control of a female Pict warrior named Senua who goes on a journey into the heart of Helheim in an effort to confront Hela & rescue the soul of her dead lover Dillion. During her journey Senua must overcome various challenges (primarily in the form of twisted visual & environmental puzzles) that the various entities that reside within Helheim. The God of Illusion named Valravn is one of them and most of his challenges require Senua to traverse & morph various areas (by going through his magical portals) in order to find his raven symbols within the environment itself. The Fire Giant Surtr is the other entity that stands in Senua's way & his challenges require her to get through his area as quickly as possible before it becomes engulfed in flame. Once both of their challenges are completed Senua has to defeat both of them in battle which allows her passage through the main gate of Helheim. Once inside, Senua must find a way to defeat Hela & rescue Dillion's soul. Throughout all of this, Senua also has to deal with & attempt to overcome her struggle with psychosis (which is an integral part of the game's narrative & Senua herself). She believes it to be a curse as she is haunted by an unknown entity known only as "The Darkness", voices in her head she calls "Furies" & dark memories of her past. Ambience, voice acting & sound design in general takes center stage within this game in an effort to really bring Senua's psychosis to life. The developers did an amazing job of properly representing someone who is suffering from psychosis while also raising awareness on the condition. The gameplay in this game is primarily revolved around the environmental puzzles, however, combat does play a fairly big role as well. When it comes to the combat, it's a pretty standard hack-and-slash game that puts a slight focus on dodging, blocking & parrying. Senua only has access to one weapon: her sword, however, she's also able to utilize a Focus ability which allows her to essentially slow down time to a halt while she can slash away at enemies. It also gives her an advantage over the bosses of the game as it stops them from completing some of their more deadly attacks. Most of the enemies in this game can be defeated simply by hacking away at them with Senua's sword attacks (while also dodging or parrying their attacks), however, the game does trickle in a few harder to defeat enemies in the form of shield-wielding brutes & enemies that utilize two-handed weapons & use attacks that Senua has to evade rather than block. Finally, with regards to the achievements in this game: Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice includes a total of 14 achievements for a total of 1000 GS. The game is very generous when it comes to story achievements as 13 of them are story related while the last one is tied to the collectible Lorestones that are scattered throughout the environment. Initially, the game released without a chapter select, however, the devs did add it in later as part of an update so it's really easy to go back to any part of the game and retrieve any Lorestones that you may have missed. The chapter select menu even tells you how many Lorestones you have & are missing which is great. That being said, this is a fairly short completion that will take you from 6 to 8 hours.
