Tsumugi reveals that she’s the mastermind and that everything we know about this series is a lie, and I mean everything- Hope’s Peak Academy, the Tragedy, those creepy Monokuma Kids from “Ultra Despair Girls”, everything! Everything that we’ve seen in this series has been nothing but smoke and mirrors! Sure, I’m fully aware that this series is a bunch of videogames and animes, but this kind of plot twist is just outright cruel. It’s just like that one episode of “The Simpsons”, “The Principal and the Pauper”, where the show basically tells the viewers, “You know Seymour Skinner, this beloved character that has brought you joy for nine seasons? Well, everything you thought you knew about him was just a bunch of lies. Enjoy!” Essentially, when a show or game does this kind of plot twist, it’s punishing the viewers (or players in this case) for paying attention and getting attached to these characters. And what makes things even worse is that they have Tsumugi use her talent to make this reveal all the more painful. So suffice to say, while this game’s ending hasn’t made me hate the “Danganronpa” series, it put a sour taste in my mouth by basically taking all of the memorable moments from the previous games- humorous, touching, and/or tragic- and dragging them through the dirt and mud. On a different note, tomorrow will be the start of the bonus episodes.
