After the bomb attacks across Iraq which killed around 60 people, and injured hundreds of others, the cleanup is underway. It is thought that more than 670 people have been killed in similar attacks during this Ramadan. More than 4,000 people have died and nearly 10,000 have been injured in attacks this year. Baghdad was the worst hit by the wave of bomb attacks apparently aimed at families celebrating the end of Ramadan. But other cities were also targeted, including Kirkuk, where the Shi'ite mosque was destroyed. The blast killed one person, injured five others, and caused widespread destruction. One resident said: "We do not have anyone to defend us. There is no-one to support us and no-one to stand with us. I challenged all the officials, including the governor and other more junior officials to come here and look after us. But no-one will come." This latest wave of attacks, which appears to have mainly targeted Shi'ite communities, although Sunni areas were also hit, increases fears of the violence in Iraq becoming increasingly sectarian.
