Since I love retro RPGs so much, I decided to try out a new series with Star Ocean: The Second Story R! Star Ocean: The Second Story (1999) is a classic Action RPG, originally published by Enix and developed by Tri-Ace. The first Star Ocean game to be released outside of Japan, it tells the story of two young heroes: Claude C. Kenny, a young space officer from Earth stranded on the medieval planet Expel, and Rena Lanford, a native of Expel with mysterious healing powers. Featuring a rich action combat system, up to thirteen playable party members across Claude and Rena's story routes, and the series' signature crafting mechanics, this game became a cult classic for the original Playstation. The 2023 remake, Star Ocean: The Second Story R, features enhanced 2.5D visuals, new voice overs in both English and Japanese, re-arranged music by Motoi Sakuraba (Dark Souls, Tales series), and updated battle mechanics.
