In 1575, she married Count Ferencz Nádasdy, a member of another influential Hungarian family. As a wedding gift, she moved to Castle Čachtice. Over the years, Elizabeth bore four children. Allegations of Brutality: 1609: Claims surfaced that Elizabeth had tortured and killed more than 600 girls with the help of her servants. Her cousin, György Thurzó, the count palatine of Hungary, investigated the matter under the orders of King Matthias. On December 30, 1609, Elizabeth and her servants were arrested. While the trial documents supported the accusations, modern scholarship questions their veracity. The Controversy: Elizabeth was a powerful woman, controlling Nádasdy’s holdings after his death. Her family cancelled a large debt owed by King Matthias in exchange for managing her captivity. Some believe the allegations were politically motivated slander to seize her lands. Legacy: Elizabeth Bathory remains a dark figure in history, associated with sadism and brutality. Legends describe her vampiric tendencies, including bathing in the blood of virgins to retain her youth.
