It serves as the ninth main installment in the franchise and a direct sequel to the critically acclaimed God of War (2018). Set in ancient Scandinavia and inspired by Norse mythology, the game follows the journey of Kratos and his now teenage son, Atreus. As the Norse saga concludes, they strive to prevent the catastrophic event of Ragnarök, which threatens to destroy the nine realms—a fate prophesied after Kratos killed the Aesir god Baldur in the previous game.
