110+ Degree Temperatures back in some of Texas Today & Friday

High temperatures this afternoon through Saturday afternoon will approach previous all-time records in parts of Northwest Texas, the Big Country, and North Texas. We're looking at 109 to 115 degrees each afternoon. The rest of Texas will also be very hot, with most locations topping out in the triple digits. Triple-digit high temperatures will continue through the next week across the eastern two-thirds of Texas, excluding any potential tropical mischief. We may see slightly less hot weather across the western third of Texas, with highs in the 90s over the weekend. The threat of wildfires will be extreme over the next three days. After a few days of slightly less dangerous wildfire conditions, we're back to dangerous conditions that could result in large, fast-moving, and potentially destructive fires. Our eyes will turn to the Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday and Wednesday. Some weather model data suggests a tropical low will move out of Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday. With the upper-level heat dome centered over the Central United States next week, a clockwise flow will tend to push the system west. The National Hurricane Center currently gives it a low chance of becoming a tropical depression/storm over the next week, but we'll need to monitor the system closely. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may become more likely along the Texas Coast as soon as Monday, with perhaps some inland regions of South and Southeast Texas getting rain by Tuesday and Wednesday. The eventual rain forecast, along with perhaps gusty winds and dangerous surf, will depend on the eventual track and strength of the tropical disturbance. There's still a chance nothing forms at all.
