Yancey Tire Chapel

Yancey Tire Chapel

Built using tires recovered from a landfill and roof beams harvested from an old church, Yancey Chapel sits on a secluded bluff on private property in Hale County, Alabama. It was designed and built by Ruard Veltman, Steve Durden, and Tom Tretheway (three of Samuel Mockbee's architecture students at Auburn University) in 1995. This was one of the first projects in Mockbee's Rural Studio. http://www.ruralstudio.org One of the architects was married in the chapel shortly after completion. The following morning, one of the other architects filmed this footage.
