Throughout the Second World War, millions of people were imprisoned inside of concentration camps and many would never make it out. At the hands of the SS and the brutal guards, millions would be killed. But one woman who managed to survive was Helen Sternlicht, who worked as a maid for the horrific Commandant of Krakow-Plaszow, Amon Göth. Amon Göth was known for being a sadistic and brutal man, who in the film Schindler's List was shown for being a savage guard. Göth would sit on the porch of his Villa and shoot and execute prisoners, and Helen would see his evil side at close hand. She served as the maid of his Villa alongside another woman for a number of years until Amon Göth was sacked as the Commandant. She was also saved by Oskar Schindler and went to work inside of his factory. But following the war she testified against Göth at his war crimes tribunal, and after Amon Göth was sentenced to death. But Helen Sternlicht lived for decades after the end of World War 2, and only recently passed away. But her story of survival is iconic and deserves to be told.
