Fasting, worship, and bathing during the Brahma Muhurta in Kartik month hold special significance. The lord of Kartik month is Lord Shiva's son, Kumar Kartikeya. Therefore, worship of Kartikeya is essential during this month, as this month is named after him. During this month, Kumar Kartikeya became the commander of the gods, killed Tarakasura, and restored the power of heaven to the gods. Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the forms of Damodar and Narayana during Kartik month. Therefore, one should observe celibacy and refrain from negative thoughts during this month. One should practice good conduct and refrain from insulting anyone. One should always be ready to help the poor and needy. Kartik is the eighth month of the Hindi calendar. Lord Damodar is worshipped in the month of Kartik. This month begins with Sharad Purnima and continues until Kartik Purnima, during which many special festivals are celebrated. In this month, bathing in holy rivers during Brahmamuhurta holds great significance. Women of the house wake up early in the morning and take a bath; this bath is auspicious for both unmarried and married women. The Ekadashi of this month, called Prabodhini Ekadashi or Dev Uthani Ekadashi, holds the greatest significance. On this day, Lord Vishnu awakens after a four-month sleep, after which auspicious activities are initiated. In this month, penance leads to salvation. By observing this month with devotion, the poor and the distressed are liberated, the importance of which was told by Lord Vishnu himself to Lord Brahma. The grace of this month cures the diseases of the sick and liberates one from the luxuries of life. Donating lamps holds significance in the month of Kartik. On this day, lamps are offered in holy rivers and temples. They are also released into the sky. This ritual begins on Sharad Purnima and continues until Kartik Purnima. In Kartik, lamps are lit for Goddess Lakshmi, indicating that she may dispel darkness and bestow light upon us. Tulsi is worshipped and Tulsi leaves are eaten during Kartik. This promotes health. One wakes up during Brahmamuhurta, bathes, and then offers water to the Sun God and the Tulsi plant. Tulsi plants are donated during Kartik. Charity also holds special significance during the month of Kartik. Throughout this month, donations are made to the poor and Brahmins. The importance of donating Tulsi, food grains, cows, and Amla plants is considered paramount during these days. Feeding animals with green fodder is also significant during Kartik.
