Schepmans: "We are working on it intensively. I reassure you that it is our daily preoccupation." Fenech: "You have an obligation to get results." Schepmans: "In any case, we are at full stretch with the team and the community (of Molenbeek). SOUNDBITE (French) Georges Fenech, President of the French Parliamentary Enquiry Commission: "Molenbeek gave birth to the authors (perpetrators) of the terrible attacks in Paris and Brussels, so there is clearly a problem but the problem lies not only in Molenbeek, it is found elsewhere and in France. The scale of the challenge facing you Madame (Mayor Schepmans) and which faces us goes beyond anything we have seen before and we must remain very modest and accept that we have a huge job to do." 15. Molenbeek has gained notoriety internationally after it emerged that several of the Paris and Brussels attackers had links to the area. Georges Fenech, the President of the French Parliamentary Enquiry Commission probing the attacks, spoke side by side with mayor Francoise Schepmans. Fenech heard from local authorities about their response to the challenge of extremists emerging from the streets of the suburb, home to one of the largest Muslim communities in Brussels. Schepmans spoke of the shock to the community in the aftermath of the Paris attacks and the March 22 attacks on the Brussels' airport and metro system. Fenech said the French and Belgians must remain "very modest and accept that we have a huge job to do" in dealing with extremism. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
