wt360 Weather Brief 14 Aug '26 Warmest and Wettest end to Aug in 3 Years

14 Aug '26: Happy Friday...yes, we're early this week! :) Team360 has been working on a super cool mobile app and we're day's away from launching! Pretty convinced this might be your new favorite weather app for global forecasts every mile on Earth, 30 interactive weather maps including an 18-hour future radar, smoke forecasts, hurricane tracking, cool interactive charting tools, 1 year of global weather history (every mile) and the best part - SUNNY - our talking AI companion robot! Sunny can answer year-ahead questions to help you plan life's important events, ask questions how weather will impact 360 equities up to a year ahead, 220 seasonal category sales forecasts globally, 3 weather sensitive diseases and it does it in all languages. As Forrest Gump said, "That's all I have to say about that." For now :) In the meantime, let's ask SUNNY about the wettest Fall 2026 in 8 years, and how it impacts a couple equities. Wet Fall weather is a benefit for Back2School and Fall apparel, but a negative for outdoor building supplies, garden and sports equipment. The most challenged equity is ASO - Academy Sports and Outdoors with an index of -1.6, the lowest in 8 years, compared XEL - Xcel Energy which is the best in 4 years. El Niño is surging and headed for a 149 year record level with rapidly warming Equatorial Pacific Ocean temperatures. This will dramatically change the World's weather patterns with WET and FLOODS and SEVERE WEATHER becoming the theme in the U.S. and Europe. The change from La Nina cold ocean temperatures last November to near record hot now in August is an amazing change. Interestingly enough, we already see La Nina returning for Fall-Winter NEXT YEAR so it's going to be a wild weather ride the next 12 months. All of this is factored into wt360's year-ahead forecasts. Models confirm the obvious with an historic El Nino by Fall and then weakening to moderate by Spring next year and then likely over by Summer 2027. The weather pattern already showing an El Nino atmospheric reaction with Hurricane La La likely to skirt just South of the Hawaiian Islands Saturday. Flooding rains the biggest impact. Our Hawaii YTD rainfall index is already the wettest in 41+ years with +142% above average rainfall and the week ahead the wettest in 8 years, 2nd wettest in 41 years. Conversely the Atlantic basin is very hostile for tropical development so the two systems still out there likely to encounter wind shear and Africa dust keeping any development weak. Some progress with the wildfires in the Pacific Northwest and far Northern Canada, but we're still getting smoke and high pollution levels, just not as bad as a couple weeks ago. Last week (9-15 Aug ending tomorrow) across the World looks to trend-0.1F cooler than last year in the U.S., but that's still 4th hottest in 41 years nationally. Hot 90F days down -7% vs LY, but 10th most in 41 years, while rainfall is up +5% over LY, most in 3 years and 16th wettest in 41 years. This time of year, cooler and wetter weather is better for Back2School sales and apparel sales. The coolest in 7 years for Canada, but very hot/dry for the U.K. Severe weather across the U.S. this past week shows we added 30 tornadoes, 260 hail events and a HUGE 1,702 high wind events. Severe winds are trending the most in 15 years, while Tornadoes and Hail are trending below last year's levels. The weekend severe weather outlook shows severe weather likely in the heart of the Corn Belt shifting to the Middle Atlantic. This week (16-22 Aug) shows temperatures trending +0.8F warmer than last year making it the warmest 3rd week of August in 23 years, 3rd warmest in 41 years. A negative for Back2School sales, especially apparel. Hot 90F days still down -10% vs LY but 14th most in 41 years, while rainfall is flat to last year and 12th driest in 41 years. The most favorable trends for B2S categories would be in the Northern Plains where it's cooler and wetter. Next week (23-29 Aug) shows a wholesale change from last year when it was the coolest in 33 years, this year +4.4F warmer than a year ago and 17th warmest of the past 41 years. Hot 90F days are up +56% with rainfall also up +13% vs LY, still 12th driest in 41 years. Expect YOY sales trends for Back2School categories to be dramatically less than last year. The 2-week World Temperature Outlook (16-29 Aug) shows some cooler weather in the North Central Plains, scorching hot South Central U.S. and some cooler weather for parts of Europe. The 2-week World Precipitation Outlook (16-29 Aug) shows some much needed rainfall for Western and Central Europe and potentially flooding rains for the Colorado Rockies.
