McCann: Salisbury, Missouri, Fiddle Contest, June 1, 1967- 2

Part of the Gordon McCann Ozarks Folk Music Collection at Missouri State University's Special Collections and Archives. This is tape 2 of the fiddle contest recorded in Salisbury, Missouri, June 1, 1967. This tape was made by Art Galbraith, given to Gordon McCann in 1990. Gordon states that there was some trouble with the recorder, so some tunes were skipped. He also states that Lena Hughes was probably accompanying on banjo. In all there were 70 contestants present from 14 states. Contestants: #14. Forest Lamb: Bloomfield, Iowa. Gordon McCann states in his notes that Lamb was a roofing contractor, and he played in an international competition in Canada in 1964. 1. "Tennessee Wagoner" (in the key of C) 2. (Swedish) (in G) 2. ? (waltz) (in G & D) 3. "Devil's Dream" (in A) #27. Gene Wells: Fayette, Missouri. Gordon McCann's notes state that Wells won first place in state contests in: 1960, 1962,1964.
