Boris Johnson delivered a major speech unveiling a series of reforms to further and higher education. The top line Boris Johnson will be giving workers a “lifetime skills guarantee” — here are the three policies he will be announcing a few hours from now. From April next year in England, the government will be offering adults of any age who do not currently have an A-Level or equivalent qualification a free college course in order to help them train for a better job. Currently, adults up to the age of 23 are entitled to a free A-Level equivalent course. Caveat: This is being paid for out of the existing National Skills Fund and will be limited to courses that are “shown to be valued by employers.” We’ll have to wait until next month for details of exactly which courses will be available.
