The all-rounder was dismissed on 46 off 41 deliveries after a straight shot from Virat Kohli's bat kissed Adam Zampa's finger before crashing on to the stumps leaving little time for Shankar to react as he was way outside the crease. The incident happened in the 29th over of the Indian innings when Kohli and Shankar were batting in the middle bailing India out of trouble after the hosts were left reeling on 75/3 in the 17th over after Ambati Rayudu's dismissal. However, their partnership of 81 runs came to an end in an unlucky manner. Kohli came down the ground and struck the ball hard only to see it hit the wickets after a slight touch from Zampa. The spinner started celebrating instantly as he knew Shankar had failed to get over the line. Replays showed Shankar's bat was just outside the crease as he departed four runs short of his first ODI fifty with India losing the fourth wicket on 156. After Shankar's departure, India lost the wickets of Kedar Jadhav (11) and MS Dhoni (0) in quick succession as the Australian bowlers made a daunting comeback in the game. Ravindra Jadeja (21) then combined with skipper Kohli to post 67-run stand for the seventh wicket and help India reach a respectable total.  Kohli top scored with 116 runs for India. For Australia, Pat Cummins was the chief destructor with the ball as he picked up four wickets. He finished with the figures of 29/4 in nine overs. Indian bowlers now have their task cut out to defend the low-key total which might prove to be a tricky task for the visitors given the sluggish conditions.
