Australia has extended a lockdown in Melbourne by another week. The seven-day lockdown was due to end just before midnight on Thursday (June 3), but those plans have been thwarted by the spread of a highly contagious virus strain first detected in India. Six new locally acquired cases were reported on June 2. The latest outbreak has been traced back to a traveller who returned from overseas. The person left hotel quarantine in South Australia state after testing negative, but later tested positive in Melbourne.
