Speaking during an Interview with NTV Kenya, Atwoli argued that he did push for the renaming of the subject road and that it was an MCA from Ngara who came up with the proposal to honor him behind his back. "I have never met the boy who did the proposal in the assembly...the only thing I was involved was that on such date we will be honoring you if you're around avail yourself", Atwoli said. He further noted that he is known worldwide and people who are making noise about "the small road" are just envious of his success as a Trade Unionist.
