To be offered on Bring a Trailer. Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this phenomenal 7,900-Mile 2002 Dodge Viper RT/10 Roadster! As the story goes, sometime in the mid-1980's then-Chrysler president, Bob Lutz, was out for a drive in his real Shelby Cobra when he came to the realization that he wanted Chrysler to build its own sports car in the spirit of the Shelby Cobra. An internal team, dubbed "Team Viper", was assembled to develop a prototype and Carroll Shelby himself was brought onboard to advise and help promote the project. Lee Iacocca internally approved the project and in 1989 the Dodge Viper was revealed to a positively stunned audience at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, MI. '92 was the Viper RT/10 roadsters inaugural sales year and featured the jaw dropping 8.0L V10 that produced 400hp and 465 lb. ft. of torque. '96 was the inaugural year for the GTS coupe version and was sold alongside the RT/10 roadster. '96 also introduced several changes and alterations that lead the Viper community to begin referring to the '92-'95 as the Gen 1 and '96-'02 as the Gen 2. These improvements included for the first-time air conditioning, power windows and locks, and air bags. Design changes included the side exhaust now relocating to the rear, which reduced backpressure therefore increasing engine output (415hp and 488 lb. ft. of torque in the RT/10 and 450hp and 490 lb. ft. of torque in the GTS), and the GTS received the "double bubble" roof design as a node to the Shelby Daytona coupe. Model year '01 continued the development with then standard ABS brakes. This 2002 RT/10 is finished in Viper Race Yellow over a Black interior and per the window sticker it had an original MSRP of $75,750. It was sold new at Tom Addis Dodge in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and subsequently titled and registered in Wenatchee, Washington on 3/25/2002. On 12/30/2002 it was sold to its second owner from Waterford, Michigan with an estimated 1,000 miles on the odometer. On 10/2/2020 it was sold to its third owner from Plymouth, Michigan with a reported 7,200 miles with the odometer currently showing 7,883 miles. Currently it is equipped with Toyo Proxes R888R tires with 2019 and 2020 date codes and a spare is included in the sale. Also included in the sale are the original Michelin tires with 2001 date codes. For the final model year of the iconic original design Dodge produced 545 RT/10's in which 178 were finished in Viper Race Yellow, the lowest produced behind 181 in Red and 186 in Graphite. Do not miss this opportunity to acquire this final year RT/10 complete with the original owner’s binder containing all the original manuals and some service records, two window stickers, both original keys with fobs, the original Michelin tires, original spare tire, and the original jack and tools, and painted hardtop.
