End of Life Doula: Care and Comfort Role - Sue Phillips

2nd Annual All-Community Virtual MSA Conference 2021 - English Speaker: Sue Phillips (Canada; Defeat MSA/Vaincre AMS) Sue Phillips is an End-of-Life Doula, providing non-medical support in Advance Care Planning, Advocacy, Legacy Projects, Caregiver Respite, Companioning and Vigiling. She is also a Funeral Celebrant helping her clients with memorials and celebrations of life. Her services also include Community Information Sessions, Storytelling and “Death Cafes,” Grief and Bereavement Peer Support and workshops exploring death, dying, and grief and bereavement. Along with her primary role of accompanying those on their end-of-life journey, Sue endeavours to help individuals (and their circle of care) feel less afraid to talk about, prepare for and even celebrate their inevitable death. Creating opportunities for such difficult conversations required when dealing with illness and death can help alleviate anxiety and distress as well as empower those who may be responsible for a loved one’s care. Sue is an active hospice volunteer, sits on the board of the End-of-Life Doula Association of Canada, and is a regional representative for the Bereavement Ontario Network (BON). Public awareness of the role of an End-of-Life Doula is priority in Sue’s work. Sue is honored to be supporting people during the incredibly difficult and profound transition into the end of life.
