He lived in the region of Hauran (modern-day Syria or northwestern Arabia) and was blessed with vast wealth, including livestock, fertile land, and a large, loving family. Despite his prosperity, Ayub remained deeply devoted to Allah, using his wealth to help the poor and needy. Satan, envious of Ayub’s unwavering devotion, claimed that Ayub’s faith was due to his blessings. He sought permission from Allah to test him, believing Ayub would abandon his devotion if his fortunes changed. Allah granted permission, and Ayub’s trials began. First, Ayub lost his wealth. His livestock died, his crops failed, and his servants were taken or killed. Despite these losses, Ayub remained steadfast, expressing gratitude to Allah and saying, “The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away.” The trials deepened when a calamity took the lives of Ayub’s children. Though heartbroken, Ayub’s faith did not waver. He accepted God’s will, saying, “We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return.” Satan’s final test was to afflict Ayub with a severe illness. His body became covered in painful sores, making him unrecognizable and leading people to shun him. Despite his suffering and isolation, Ayub’s wife, Rahma, stood by him, caring for him with unwavering loyalty. When Rahma, exhausted by their hardships, suggested Ayub pray for relief, Ayub gently reminded her of the many years of blessings they had enjoyed and insisted on patience. Eventually, Ayub, weakened but faithful, raised his hands and prayed, “Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most Merciful of the merciful.” Allah, pleased with Ayub’s patience, instructed him to strike the ground with his foot.
