It activates the abdominal organs and helps build paraspinal muscles as well as abdominal muscles. It is quite an envigorating posture. 5. Benefits of Padmasana - "Padma" means a lotus. This is the lotus posture, one of the most important and useful asanas. It is the posture for meditation and the Buddha is often depicted in it. The position of the crossed legs and erect spine keeps the mind attentive and alert. The pose is great in curing stiffness in the knees and ankles. There is a good blood circulation in the lumbar region and abdomen, the spine and abdominal organs are toned.
